Patient presented himself with a loose bridge. To our dismay, upon removal a long segment of a fractured post was left within the canal of the front abutment. A loosened post in distal abutment also came off with the bridge. Despite the fact that this bridge prognosis is guarded, patient opted for an attempt to preserve it. In order to do so, fractured casted post fragment had to be removed and replaced by another one. Patient also accepted the sectioning of distal cantilever pontic to release some stress. Both Buc 3 ultrasonic tips and the Ruddle version of Gonon Post Removal System (Ruddle Post Removal System, Kerr Dental) have proven to be useful during the procedure.
A Duralay post has been fabricated and adapted to the existing bridge abutment directly in patient’s mouth and then sent for casting. Last post operative displays cemented new casted post and preserved bridge.
